The project builds upon innovation and technologies in different research fields. The consortium partners have an excellent insight into the state-of-the-art in their respective fields. The core ClinicIMPPACT consortium, i.e. 6 out of 8 partners, has collaborated in the FP7 ICT Project IMPPACT, in which a novel physiological model for RFA treatment of liver cancer has been developed and validated on pigs and on a limited set of patient data. Building on this established collaboration, the ClinicIMPPACT consortium has invited two additional clinical partners (RUN and TUH) to strengthen the clinical relevance of the project development.

The Department of Radiology of the Radboud University Nijmegen (RUN) is an academic center with research, education and patient care. It has extensive expertise in terms of (functional) MRI imaging, cancer imaging and oncologic interventions. Advanced MRI facilities for both patient care and (animal experiments) research are available. Within the Department of Radiology oncology is an important focus of research and patient care.

Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology

The University Hospital in Leipzig is a hospital of maximum care with 1,350 beds and a large department of liver surgery and liver transplantation. The Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Department serves a broad spectrum of image-guided interventions based on X-ray, ultrasound, CT, and MRI, including minimally invasive tumour ablation techniques.

Department of Vascular and Interventional Radiology

The Medical University of Graz MUG comprises 14 pre-clinical research institutes and 23 clinical departments with 46 divisions and has 5300 students and 7000 employees in the university clinics. MUG is the central hospital in Styria/Austria, treating several thousands patients a year. All kind of cancers are treated at MUG, including HCC, pulmonary cancer, kidney cancer and other types of solid tumours, treated surgically as well as minimal invasively.

Department of Biomedical Engineering and Computational Science

The participating unit at Aalto-University, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Computational Science BECS has three research focus areas: Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics, Computational Complex Systems and Brain and Mind. The scale of the systems of interest at BECS ranges from quantum dots to broad networks. Medical image processing is a key area in biomedical engineering.
